Car show revs up crowd

Edwardsville - A 1920 Ford Model T to a Corvette, 2011, the Edwardsville Police DARE20th anniversary car show brought cries of joy and two from serious consideration by the car enthusiasts of all ages.

"I love television," said Claire six years, trying to find the 20 fitted on the car. "You can even walk on when you're in the car (referring to a floor positioned on each seat)."

"I really like the X-Box!" Said Justin 9 years, pointing to the unit mounted in the trunk.

A friend of the owner explained that placing televisions of different sizes in unusual places is something Jackson likes to do to make your car stand out. There were three under the hood, one on the steering column, two on each headrest, four in the chest and a snap-on version that attached to the plate, between others.

"It's a great show with such a great turnout," said Gary Williams of Collinsville, who brought his 1995 Corvette Polo Green Metallic for the show. "I came for the last four years, and I always a point of honor to be the first here for a special place close to shade trees."

With 50 class lists for cars and trucks, in addition to 10 other classes for motorcycles, Williams said the variety allows everyone to find something they love.

"Maybe I'm a fan of Corvette, but there is something to appreciate on every car here," he said. "All the work that goes into restoring and maintaining a car - the time of money and patience - it's unbelievable, "he said." And the ability to hunt around the necessary parts is another factor. "

Regardless of make and model year, car enthusiasts car classified into two main categories.

The Official Street Car Shootout qualifying period begins at 6:30 PM and concludes at 9:00 PM, (barring unforeseen circumstances). At 9:20 PM, the four quickest qualifiers meet in no-handicap eliminations with the championship final round held at 9:45 PM. Each of the Top 16 qualifiers receives a "Fastest Street Car Qualifier" decal. The SCSS trophies and decals are presented by SX Performance Fuel Systems . Additionally, the two quickest Sport Tuner drivers, (open to all passenger cars except Rear-Wheel-Drive vehicles with engines of six cylinders or more), also meet in a no-handicap championship round for trophies presented by St. Louis Street Racers.com and the two quickest Super Truck drivers, (open to all trucks and utility vehicles), meet in a no-handicap championship round for trophies presented by Gateway Raceway.com . All finalists in all categories also receive free digital images from the event courtesy of Bret Kepner Photos.com and one free entry to a future SCSS event. Although Tim “Moose” Mallicoat secured a record sixteenth victory, it was a perfect track surface and the most brutal field of competitors ever assembled which made the September 18th event in the 2007 SX Performance Street Car Shootout Series a contest which nearly defied description. One week after the Super Sixteen field produced a record 10.96-second “bump spot”, a virtual parade of the quickest and fastest drivers in the series laid waste to almost every performance standard by ridiculous margins. Producing a nearly insane “bubble” of 10.44 seconds --more than a half-second quicker than any sixteen-car field before it--spectators at Gateway International Raceway in Madison, Illinois, witnessed more than half of the assemblage record career-best elapsed times and speeds which, in some cases, were up to four tenths of a second quicker than previous bests. An inordinate amount of wheelstands marked the show and, through the efforts of the GIR starting line crew, traction was not only more plentiful than ever before but the starting line held its adhesion throughout the event. Examples of the insidiously fast program came at nearly every turn.
