COMMENTARY with VIDEO: Mike Huckabee, you are such a hypocrite!

Right wing darling Mike Huckabee, a Southern Baptist minister and former governor of Arkansas, says Americans need a good Christian education because “greed caused the collapse not only of our economic system but of our ethical system.”

He may be right ... about greed.

Huckabee, though, is now a shining example of what greed will do. Instead of running for President of the United States in 2012, Huckabee is sitting on the sidelines and pontificating about what’s wrong with America, and using his bully pulpit on Fox News to do his part in the right-wing’s Herculean effort to prevent Barack Obama from getting re-elected. Only the disgraced Rupert Murdoch knows how much money Huckabee gets paid by Fox News to be a character assassin and chief of the moral police.

This week, however, Huckabee began hawking "Learn Our History," a series of “children’s educational DVDs” about the 9/11 attacks and the war on terror. "The first one's $9.95, and then it goes to $11.95,” Huckabee said on Pat Robertson’s “700 Club.”

The cartoons immediately drew widespread criticism. New Yorkers, including those who lost loved ones in the 9/11 terror attack, were outraged that someone would try to profit off their misery. Educators expressed concerned about young children viewing cartoons that contained adult messages. Critics wondered why anyone would want to learn history from Huckabee, who has a bachelor's degree in religion and dropped out of Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Huckabee stands to make a handsome profit off those cartoons, which one New Yorker called “blood money.” On his website promoting the cartoons, it is noted that an undisclosed portion of the proceeds would go to the families of 9/11 victims.

As the 10th anniversary of 9/11 approaches in September, a right-wing group is also trying to profit on the terror attack. The Campaign To Defeat Barack Obama, a political action group tied to the Tea Party Express, is selling 9/11 commemorative pins for $10. No doubt the money raised will go toward Tea Party Express efforts to take over Washington and make Obama a one-term president.

FORT WORTH, Texas (SWBTS) – Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary was saddened to hear of the death of Southwestern alumnus and Florida pastor Forrest Pollock, who was killed in a plane crash along with his 13-year-old son Preston, May 12. Pollock, 44, was pastor of Bell Shoals Baptist Church in Brandon, Fla., near Tampa.

President Paige Patterson said, “Forrest Pollock is safe! He preached that life was a vapor and that the best was yet to come. For Dr. Pollock and his son Preston, that came unexpectedly but certainly when the plane went down. For Dawn and his remaining children, that was far too soon, and we join them in their sorrow. We at Southwestern Seminary esteemed this preacher highly and know that he has made a phenomenal contribution both here at Southwestern and around the globe. While we rejoice for him that all trials are complete and he is with Jesus, we, along with his church, his family, and all Southern Baptists grieve at our temporary severance from this our beloved brother.”

Pollock graduated from Southwestern with a Master of Divinity in evangelism in 1994 and a Doctor of Ministry in church growth in 1998. He served as president of the Southwestern Alumni Association (1999-2000) and has been regularly involved in local, state and national Baptist committees.

Pollock is survived by his wife Dawn and five other children, Courtney, 15; Brooke, 14; Hope, 12; Blake, 10; and Kirk, 8. Please join us in praying for his family and the members of Bell Shoals Baptist Church.
