Riverdale Elementary PTO Set to Host Fundraiser

Riverdale Elementary 's Parent-Teacher Organization is looking to raise money to enhance the school's library or to make renovations to the playground.

PTO Vice President Christina Burton said the PTO is hoping to raise money with the help of Macy's Shop For a Cause sale. On Saturday Aug. 27, Macy's will offer special sale prices to shoppers with an All-Day Savings Pass, when they can get 25 percent off regular, sale and clearance items and 10 percent off for electronics, furniture and mattresses. 

It's the first time Riverdale Elementary has participated in the event, Burton said.

Shoppers should buy the $5 pass from Burton. She said they will be selling the passes Thursday and Aug. 18 at the Riverdale Park Farmers Market or they can call her directly at 301-357-9803.

She said 100 percent of the profits from the sale will benefit the school and they are hoping to sell 450 passes.

Parents interested in joining the PTO should contact Burton or President Tina Davis.

One company that we carry in our stores did something very similar. I ordered a sofa for someone after we both sat on the floor model. When the special order arrived, it sat completely different. When I checked the cushions, I could see that a much cheaper foam core had been substituted. Over the course of a few months, the manufacturer received multiple complaints from dealers and their customers about the wear of the foam, and it eventually changed to a different kind of cushion core. My customer received new cores when this change went into effect. Dealers have no control over what goes into the construction of goods when manufacturers opt to change production methods and materials. Macy's reluctance to trade cushions with you could have been a totally unrelated store policy. I've worked for several major retailers whose corporate policies made absolutely no sense! Just count yourself lucky that you now have better quality, high density cushion cores. Hope this info helped you understand what goes on with the manufacturing process. :-)Sue

I don't think it matters if you're a woman or a man, some corporations just hand customer service a script and they refuse to step out of the box and think.
