PAW PRINTS | New Name, New Space on the Horizon for Humane Society

— Big things are going on at the Humane Society of Mason County! For starters, we are conducting a contest for a new name to reflect our interest in contacting more of the Kitsap community, and that we are not affiliated with the Humane Society of the United States. We have several great ideas already, so send in your thoughts, as the contest will end Sept. 1.

Our dinner/auction event in April and rummage sale in June were very profitable, and we hope to do well at Allyn Days, July 16 and 17. We will be offering microchipping both days, as well as at the annual Pet Walk Aug. 20.

Not too long ago, a microchip saved the day and the dog. A Seattle woman was visiting in the Burley area and her dog got loose. Since it had a microchip, the dog was returned and it was a happy ending. Our microchips will be $25 pre-registered – what a deal to safeguard your pet!

Save the dates: Aug. 6 for the annual Lakeland Village garage sale in Allyn; Aug. 20 for Paws in the Park Pet Walk at Belfair State Park and Nov. 19 for Photos with Santa Paws at Scott McLendon’s. More details on these fundraisers to come later. Luckily, there will be no park fee at Belfair State Park for participants as we are “grandfathered” in for this year.

It looks like we will be going to a new office location at a date to be determined later, as the Chamber of Commerce is moving and giving up its lease. Dr. Tom Armstrong of North Mason County Resource has offered us an office in their building.

Casper’s, in the Belfair Log Plaza, is having a TV raffle, with proceeds going to us. Visit them for a raffle ticket and the most delicious pizza you ever tasted. The barbecue is also fantastic!

Blanche Valverde, our vice president, and I (plus our husbands) have taken on new rescue dogs that were called in as needing a home. Blanche now has two new dogs, a Basset named Corky and Dachshund named Ginger, to add to her other two Dachshunds. I have a 112-pound Golden Retriever we named Chester, to add to our Greyhound mix and Collie mix. Needless to say, Blanche and I are very busy, along with our office duties.

We have several irons in the fire on our search for shelter land. We do hope one of these will be successful (at last), as the need is very great. We gratefully thank all our supporters who hang in there with us, and hope and pray for that animal shelter in the very near future.

Make An Impact: Casper humane society

Cats and dogs die everyday. A cat may be thrown out from an uncaring family, having to fend for itself. Living in the sewers, infested with all kinds of bacteria and diseases. Eating small rodents with viruses raging throughout their body. Then as the cat comes out into the night, it walks, ribs like trenches in its side, hair falling from its body, its insides slowly being torn apart with deadly infections and diseases, and as all this happens the animal walks out across the asphalt slowly. Then hit by a car, its body lay on the ground, a wet rag with guts strewn out across the road and eyes forces from their sockets, tire tracks imprinted on it hide… dead. Dogs and cats have no care; they are thrown out and mistreated each day, with no food, no medical care, and no home. Both cats and dogs, a popular family animal are thrown out and mistreated each day, either by a family who underestimated the costs of having that animal or family who does not care, by your donations and help Casper humane society can care for these animals. By simply calling 307-265-5439, and donating food, towels, bed, or other things to the Casper human society Where seventy cents of every dollar goes toward the helping of these mistreated dogs and cats, you can help these poor animals. Other ways of helping is by adopting animals from a shelter, and giving them a wonderful home, or keeping your animals with you and off the streets, and not underestimating the costs of having a pet. Now because of your help animals are safe and away from harm, but most importantly happy. Now by helping you are helping both cats and dogs be healthy, strong, happy, warm, carefree, and have a home. Please help us make this world a better place for both you, and an animal. If you help, animals and people will be happy, cats and dogs will have a home, and will comfort their owners, this will also make it so that there will be room for even more abandoned animals to stay at the shelters until they can have a home.
