A fine footnote of transport history with a strange echo from the recession of 1990 back to the recession of 2009.
When Coloroll went into receivership, one of the casualties was the UK domestic parcels network of a company called Elan International, because it was a very large customer. Elan was closed down and many of my colleagues lost their jobs.
This company had been owned by DHL International Ltd until the year before, and had then been sold on to a privately owned company. The international network of DHL survived and prospered.
In 2010 the UK domestic parcels network of DHL Express UK ltd was sold on to a privately owned company. The international network of DHL survived and prospered.
The jury is still out on how much of the former Securicor Omega Express will survive.

They started life under my fire truck and have 19k original miles on them. They were disassembled down to the last nut and bolt and re-assembled with the best NEW factory parts. Added were new factory Detroit lockers front and rear ( these aren't cheap the like the military ones and just the lockers cost 2500.00 from detroit.. because they are rare). Seals etc were replaced. Then the real work began... the rear has already been converted to disc brakes with b700 rotors and f500 calipers. It is set up for single rear wheels.. all new studs..lugs etc. This conversion required a lot of engineering and machine work to make it sano. The brackets were made all out of 1/2 inch plate. The front has been all built... the b 700 rotors are included... but I haven't done the machine work on them yet...
