Unemployment numbers questioned

Questions have been raised about the veracity of recent unemployment figures which show a slight decrease in the number of Bahamians who are out of work, with observers suggesting that the numbers don’t accurately reflect the levels of unemployment.

"A quick poll of my constituents in the Fox Hill area shows that the statistics released by The Bahamas government on unemployment in The Bahamas are not received or perceived as credible," Progressive Liberal Party (PLP) MP Fred Mitchell  said in a statement.  "The feeling amongst many of my constituents is that the figures do not accurately reflect the real picture of the unemployed in The Bahamas.  It  is not an accurate reflection of the misery index in the country."

The national unemployment rate has dropped from 14.2 percent to 13.7 percent since 2009, according to the latest labor force survey conducted by the Department of Statistics.  However, the number of people who are no longer looking for work (discouraged workers) also dramatically increased by 34.8 percent.

But with the officials who conducted the unemployment poll admitting to avoiding going into certain areas because of the criminal element, some observers add that the statistics are missing a key element.

Democratic National Alliance candidate for Blue Hills Dario Terrelli said officials can not give us a true sampling of what unemployment is really like unless those areas are canvassed.

”Those are some of the most hard pressed areas where unemployment is the greatest.  It would be ridiculous for us to believe that this is a true representation of what unemployment is like in The Bahamas,” he told The Nassau Guardian yesterday.

Kelsie Dorsett, director of the Department of Statistics, admitted to reporters on Friday that the safety of her officers prevented officials from surveying certain areas.

“The crime element prevents us sometimes from going into certain areas, because I will not endanger my staff to go into areas that we know outright that they will they will be harassed in one way or another,” she said on Friday.

However, Dorsett said despite that setback her officers were able to get an accurate picture of the unemployment figures.

“Now we do find means of adjusting for that, if we find that this area is not an area we try to substitute that area,” she said.  “What we can’t substitute though is if they go to an area and the [respondents] give incorrect information.  That can destroy what we are trying to accomplish.

Q&A: Completely new to bow hunting an bows in general.? | Gadget ...

First off, yes you can get excellent with solid practice by this up-coming deer season. Second, I reckon it is a very excellent thought for you to question a professional who has been in the business for many being because terrible advice is the worst thing for a beginner. One god piece of advice that i can offer is to not get a bow that is too strong for you to pull back. If you have to hold it up in the air to pull it back then you need one that is a small softer. Just reckon about how much movement you would have to make when there are deer around you that are very sensitive to it.

Sounds like you’re set. You have very solid thoughts for advice. By October, you will be very proficient if you practice enough. I recommend hitting a 3d array if you can. That is a target course with 3d animal targets. Very excellent for practice. You get to practice shooting uphill, down hill, different animal angles, even off of a tree stand, nothing better for practice. Also, the 60 lbs might seem hard at first. Turn the bow down a small. You will be amazed how quick your body will grow accustomed to drawing a bow. 60 lbs might be a small heavy now, but by Oct, you won’t even notice it.

If the store won’t help you out, I’m sure they will, find yourself a array. Archers, for the most part, are a forthcoming bunch. If you’re in the US, go to http://www.usarchery.org and try to find a array, or alternatively go to http://www.nfaa-archery.org .

Go to the array and question around for pointers. 60 lbs can be quite hard to pull for a first time archer. For this you might need to go to a store, although some ranges are equipped to also handle this. See if you can get the draw consequence reduced a bit. That way you can shoot more arrows before you get tired. It will also lower the possibility of injury. Work out the archery muscles, specially the shoulders, with weights to prevent injury. Most archery injuries related with heavy bows happen to the rotator cuff muscles. Look on the web for some rotator cuff muscle workouts.

Compounds are quite simple to get started with. When I started shooting, I bought a recurve, I met this fella who had also just bought a compound bow. We both unwrapped our new shinny toys together and shortly after started shooting together. Within about 20 minutes he was happily shooting a coffee cup lid from 20 yards while I’m barely hitting 23″ target.
