Review: OS X 10.7 Lion

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Apple's OS X 10.7 Lion is the most advanced version of the Mac operating system and is the first to be sold as a digital download via the Mac App Store.

Bridging the gap between the touch-focused mobile iOS 5 and further refining the desktop system, Lion may not be as revolutionary as previous versions but instead brings a number of compelling feature updates, conveniences and solid refinements all for the price of $30.

Installation like butter

A departure from previous DVD-based software installations, Lion is purchased and downloaded directly on compatible Macs. Using Apple's Mac App Store, which we reviewed previously , OS X Lion is downloaded directly into the desktop.

This 4 GB download takes anywhere from 20-45 minutes to fully complete and presents users with straightforward instructions. Once you agree to the conditions, cross your fingers and the installation begins.

On our 2010 MacBook Air with a fast SSD (Solid State Drive), installation took just under 30 minutes. A quick restart and Lion was freshly installed.

On our older 17 " inch iMac installation took 40 minutes to download and around 30 minutes to install. This iMac is slower, has a larger SATA hard drive but installation was still relatively seamless.

There is no easy way to explain how transformative it is to install software this way. We know some users will miss the control and versatility offered by CDs and DVDs (you can force an install into a USB stick for future use ), but this is just so much better. Provided it works as promised.

Speaking of the Mac App Store, this is now a mainstay feature of the OS and one that Apple hopes will revolutionize the Mac software market the same way iTunes forced the music industry to rethink its approach to selling and distribution of digital files.

Buying apps from the Mac app store automatically installs them into the system without much fuss or to many install screens. Installed apps are now included in the software update and new versions can be set to automatically replace old ones. Too bad there isn't a way to "join" older applications that weren't purchased from the App Store into the update queue. These older fellows need to be updated manually, one by one.

The best thing about the Lion installation, no boxes and discs are needed and neither is the optical DVD drive, which Apple has duly retired to a time-share in Miami.

If you like cats and all specie belong to cat family, you’ll be glad that this article will tackle about interesting facts about leopard – a big cat that is popular for its agility and speed and of course, for its “spots”. Leopard can be found in regions of northeast Africa, China, India, Central Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.

The length of an averaged-sized leopard is between 4.45 to 6.25 feet. That excludes its tail’s length which is in between 3.5 to 4.5 feet. It weighs approximately 66 to 176 pounds. Leopard is considered as the smallest cat among big cat family, compare to tigers, jaguars and lions. And did you know that a male leopard is larger then female leopards by 50 percent. One of the amazing leopard facts is its variations of coat’s pattern and colors. Did you know that the leopard’s coat pattern vary depends on the region where it inhabits. In warmer regions, leopards have tawny or light buff pattern while in dense forest, leopard’s coats have darker pattern. Ultimate predator! Leopards are also known to be an excellent swimmer, climber and runner. They are also nocturnal. A lonely creature. Another interesting leopard fact is that it doesn’t have a place to call “home”. Leopards don’t stay long at one place. They just stalk and mark their territory using their claw marks and urine. The prey options of leopard are varied and wide. Leopards eat fish, carrion, birds, reptiles and birds. This leopard fact is quite disturbing. As of now, they are hunted for their tails, skin, whiskers and claws. And since they are considered as a predator of livestock animals, farmers are one of their foes. Subspecies of leopard are all considered as endangered animals.
