Just wanted to give you some feedback on the Tidewater Golf & Plantation unit we stayed at in July in North Myrtle Beach, SC. The room was nice and clean. It is actually a 3 bedroom unit plus a sofa bed which would sleep at least 8 people. North Myrtle Beach is very nice. The beach is beautiful, clean sand, warm waters. Plenty of miniature golf courses to try. Shopping was very convenient on Route 17. We went to Barefoot Landing (shopping and food). We took in two shows, one at the Alabama Theatre which was great and a dinner and show at Dolly Parton's Dixie Stampede. The kids really enjoyed it. We went to Ripley's Aquarium also and much more. On August 2, 2008, my husband and I were to leave for a 2 week vacation in Europe. When I was packing and getting documents ready, I looked for our plane tickets and could not find them. I looked everywhere. We purchased the tickets through Travel to Go. I called the emergency number and Ms. Franklin was on duty that day. She advised me to call the Airline Company which I did, but they said since they had our reservation but no record of payment we wouldn't be able to fly unless we paid for the fare again. Ms. Franklin was very courteous and tried to be very helpful. She was accommodating, more than I can say for the airline. She certainly "went through her paces" that afternoon, and I appreciate all she tried to do. I in turn prayed for the airline tickets to appear from somewhere, and they did, they had fallen off my desk, (which is in a comer) and I found them on the floor between the wall and the desk.Myrtle Beach Aquarium - News

Ripley Aquarium of Myrtle Beach » Schooling Fish
Any group of fish that stay together for social reasons are said to be shoaling, the group is also swimming in the same direction in a coordinated manner, they are said to be schooling. This behavior does have much to do with their ability to survive and reproduce in sufficient numbers.  Schools are composed of many fish of the same species moving in more or less harmonious patterns throughout the oceans. A very prevalent behavior, schooling is exhibited by almost 80 percent of the more than 20,000 known fish species during some phase of their life cycle.
There are some ecological advantages for fish to be schooling. Some species of fish secrete a “slime” that helps to reduce the friction of water over their bodies. Also the fish swim in fairly precise, staggered patterns when traveling in schools. Another advantage is the safety factor against predators. A potential predator breeding hunting for a meal might become confused by the closely spaced school, which can give the impression of one vast and frightening fish.  Additionally, there is the concept of “safety in numbers”—a predator cannot consume and unlimited quantity of prey. The sheer number of fish in a school allows species to hide behind each other, thus confusing a predator by the alteration of shapes and colors presented as the school swims along. Of course, those on the outside edges of the school are more likely to be eaten than those in the center.  Predatory fish also gain from schooling because it gives them the ability to travel in large numbers in search of food.
At Ripley’s aquarium we house a few species of fish that like to travel in big schools in our Dangerous Reef and Rainbow Rock exhibits. An example of schooling fish we have are Atlantic spadefish, Lookdown fish, French grunt fish, Raccoon butterflyfish, Longfin bannerfish, etc.
